Reflexology involves applying pressure to and massaging certain areas of the feet and hands. Its aim is to encourage healing and relieve stress and tension. It is also used by many to maintain general health and well-being.
Reflexology treatment is based on the principle that certain areas of the feet - called reflexes - are linked to other areas of the body through the nervous system. The arrangement of the reflexes has a direct relationship to the area of the body they affect.
In a session, a reflexologist will apply pressure to certain reflexes. The aim is to stimulate energy flow and send signals around the body - targeting areas of tension and pain.
Aromatherapy is the systematic use of volatile plant oils known as essential oils for the treatment or prevention of disease. It is a form of complementary therapy designed to treat the whole person and not just the symptom or disease by assisting the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself.
One of the reasons that aromatherapy has been so hugely successful is because it uses a holistic approach, whereby the aromatherapist takes into account a persons medical history, emotional condition, general health and lifestyle before planning a course of treatment. The whole person is treated - not just the symptoms of an illness - and this is in direct opposition to the modern trend of just treating the presented condition.
The essential oils used within aromatherapy have been tried and tested on humans for thousands of years, and with great success. Therefore, when used correctly we can be absolutely sure of their safety and efficacy without the need to test them further on animals.
A Swedish massage focuses on overall relaxation, circulation, and physical and mental wellness. Swedish massage includes gliding, kneading, tapping, stretching, and cross-friction strokes.
Swedish massage techniques improve circulation, the flow of lymphatic fluid (a key component of the immune system), and relax muscles overall. This is a “soothe” massage, not a “pressure” massage.
A Swedish massage is one of the best ways to raise your “good” hormonal levels. Swedish massage boosts serotonin, a calming hormone, as well as oxytocin, a “feel good” hormone.
